Planets Outside Of Our Solar
System
1. Super Earth 55 Cancri e
55 Cancri e is a super-Earth - more massive than the Earth but lighter than a gas giant.
This planet is so close to its Sun that it orbits every 18 hours.
2. Alpha Centauri B.
Although its about the size of Earth, it's closer to the Sun than Mercury, making it
uninhabitable.
3. A Night Sky Full Of Stars
This gas giant is located in the Beehive Cluster, a tightly packed collection of over 1,000
stars.
4. Kappa Andromedae b
Kappa Andromedae b is nearly 13 times the mass of Jupiter, making it one of the largest
known planets.
5. Kepler-20e
Kepler-20e is the first planet outside of our solar system scientists have discovered that's
smaller than Earth.
6. Kepler-22b
Kepler-22b was the first planet discovered to exist in the 'habitable zone' of a star, meaning that
its far away enough that water could be liquid.
7. The Kepler-47
The Kepler-47 system is the first star system known to have multiple planets that circle multiple
stars.
8. Kepler-20f
Kepler-20f is about the same size as the Earth. However, its distance from the Sun puts its
surface temperature at 800 degrees Fahrenheit.
9. UCF-1.01
UCF-1.01 is only 33 light years away from Earth, and is close to the same size. It does have one
distinctly non-Earth-like quality, however: its surface is covered in lava.
